Summary

Randolph Elementary School in Atlanta, GA, serves approximately 497 students in grades PK through 5 within the Fulton County School District, where 100% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. This school has become a standout example of steady, meaningful improvement, climbing from the 28th percentile statewide in 2015-2016 to the 54th percentile (3 stars) in 2025-2026—its best ranking in a decade. The most recent year saw a remarkable jump of 143 positions in the statewide ranking, the largest single-year gain in the available data.

One of the most impressive turnarounds is in attendance. Randolph’s chronic absenteeism rate has plummeted from 35.1% in 2021-2022 to just 10.6% in 2025-2026—now the lowest among all comparable schools in the area. For context, nearby West Manor Elementary School sits at 27.3%, Miles Elementary School at 44.1%, and R. N. Fickett Elementary School at 33.4%. This improvement correlates with strong academic gains, especially in math: 5th grade math proficiency jumped from 23% to 43.1% in a single year, now nearly matching the state average and outperforming both Cliftondale Elementary School (35.8%) and Stonewall Tell Elementary School (37.8%). The school also achieves balanced outcomes across genders, with both boys and girls earning 3-star ratings.

Randolph’s success is especially notable given its modest per-student spending of $17,719—far less than many Atlanta Public Schools neighbors that spend $25,000–$36,000 per student yet rank lower and struggle with much higher absenteeism. The school also ranks in the 81st percentile statewide for African American students, a top-tier result. While Randolph still trails its Fulton County district averages in some subjects, its trajectory—fueled by dramatically improved attendance and effective instructional strategies—suggests continued progress ahead.

Open Quote This school has poor leadership. The current Principal should be replaced with a person with more experience. She seems very inexperienced and have very minimal people skills. She has not done anything to help the children at Randolph since becoming Principal. The test scores has gone down and the teachers are not all that great. The teachers do not communicate enough with the parents about academics....they only communicate about negative behavior. Parent/Teacher conferences almost never happens....only once this school year (October 2016). They care less about the children at Randolph. The parents get no feedback about their children's progress. I guess we will get feedback when it is too late...then it's the parent's fault. Randolph has turned into a horrible school. This school needs a new Principal and the teachers need to be vetted better. Bring in more experienced teachers. Close Quote
