My 2 kids go to Winston and we are there by choice (waiver), but next year, we will be leaving. The old principal and AP helped make Winston great. He left and the AP either didn't apply or didn't get the principal position. I heard she didn't get it and in my opinion, she found have carried on the traditions at Winston. She was there last year, but the new principal took over. It didn't seem to be a two person leadership team. The principal seemed to be the only one and the spirit of a Winston changed. The teachers seemed unhappy, and at the end of the year the AP left. I'm not even sure that she stayed in the county. My kids loved her and the previous principal. Amazing how one person can change a school. This year, my kids don't feel valued. They even say she doesn't know them and she never laughs with them like the other two administrators did. They say it is just school, not a fun place to learn anymore. I don't know who decided on the changes, but Winston had a great thing going. The principal should have stayed, and if he had to go the AP should have stepped onto his spot. Bringing a new person in took what was a Winston away. Now it's just another school. Close Quote

There is NO communication at Winston Elementary school since the new principal has taken over. Not only has the morale in the school significantly declined, but the staff seem to be unhappy as well as the students. Participation in school day activities "100th day of school, crazy hair day, etc" has also suffered. This school used to be full of life and the children were happy to be in school. The kids knew they were there to learn, but also to have fun.

The new administration (mainly new principal) has no feelings towards the well being of the children. She does not seem to know many of their names, what happens on school grounds, and has a general lack of caring. She rarely sends out communications to parents and the teachers seem as clueless as us parents.

I am saddened by this drastic change in Winston Elementary. The school board does not seem to care either. Time to look into private schools. Close Quote

This school has the best staff of any school in the county. My kids love it so much that they cried when summer was here. I would recommend this school to any of my friends!
