Summary

The STEM Academy at Bartlett is a middle school in Savannah, GA, serving 625 students in grades 6-8 within the Savannah-Chatham County district, and it stands out as a high-performing option in an area where many nearby schools struggle. The school holds a 4-star rating and ranks in the 76th percentile statewide, placing it well above the district average. While it was once a consistent 5-star school ranking in the 94th-97th percentile between 2016 and 2019, its ranking has gradually declined over the past several years—a trend worth watching, though the school still dramatically outperforms its immediate peers.

Academically, The STEM Academy posts math proficiency rates that are roughly 2.3 to 2.5 times higher than the district average, with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade scores ranging from 56.7% to 61.5%. Its 8th grade Physical Science proficiency (68.6%) exceeds the state average, and its Algebra I End of Course pass rate (54.9%) beats both the district (32.8%) and state (48.1%). The school's STEM focus appears to deliver real benefits in science and math, especially when compared to nearby schools like Southwest Middle School (35.9% science proficiency) and Myers Middle School (13% science proficiency). Among the seven Savannah-Chatham middle schools within 11 miles, The STEM Academy ranks first by a wide margin—the next closest, Coastal Middle School, ranks in the 80th percentile, while the other five all fall in the bottom 15th percentile statewide.

One of the school's most impressive strengths is its chronic absenteeism rate of just 6.2%—less than half the district rate (16.6%) and roughly one-third of the state rate (17.7%). This rate has been cut nearly in half since 2022-2023, suggesting strong family engagement and a positive school culture. The school also performs well across student subgroups, with White, Hispanic, and African American students all earning 4-star or higher ratings. Notably, The STEM Academy achieves these results while spending less per student ($16,728) than several lower-performing district schools, making it an efficient and effective choice for families seeking a rigorous middle school experience in the Savannah area.

Open Quote This is a fantastic school, and as a student that attends the school(writing this from my mother's email). You are exposed to a lot of things that you would not learn at a regular middle school. Such as, coding engineering and technology, vex engineering and building, advanced mathematics, science, and reading. At this school, you can also get into depth with film and theatre. Hope I see your kid in my homeroom next year!-A student who attends The STEM academy @ bartlett. Close Quote
