Summary:

Carver High School Early College is a public high school in Atlanta, Georgia, serving 575 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Atlanta Public Schools district, which is ranked 149 out of 203 districts in the state.

Carver High School Early College stands out for its consistently high graduation rates, ranging from 90.4% to 92.6% over the past five years, significantly higher than nearby schools like South Atlanta High School (84.4%) and Booker T. Washington High School (73.9%). The school also outperforms the district and state in several Milestones Assessment subjects, with 53.1% of students proficient or better in United States History, compared to 21.1% for Atlanta Public Schools and 38.7% for the state. However, the school's statewide ranking has declined from a high of 8th in 2014-2015 to 241st in 2023-2024, suggesting challenges in maintaining its academic excellence over time.

Carver High School Early College serves a predominantly economically disadvantaged student population, with a 100% free/reduced lunch rate, higher than nearby schools like Midtown High School (18.85%) and Maynard Jackson High School (43.55%). The school's relatively high per-student spending, ranging from $15,444 to $18,735 over the past three years, may indicate additional resources and support to address the needs of its student population, though it is unclear how these resources are being utilized.

Open Quote I graduated from Carver Early College in the year of 2012. I remember being praised for an almost perfect pass rate and ranking so high in the state. Till this day, I still brag about this. We had amazing teachers like Mr. Rennie, Mrs. Conner, Mr. Rehman, Mr. Miller, etc. And I can't forget about our principal, our amazing principal. This school has set me up for success. Although it seems to be going downhill now, I hope that it will turn around in the future. Thank you Early College! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
