Madison County is home to five elementary schools—Danielsville Elementary School, Hull-Sanford Elementary School, Colbert Elementary School, Ila Elementary School, and Comer Elementary School—serving roughly 2,493 students in grades K-5 across a predominantly rural, high-poverty area.

Ila Elementary School is the clear standout, ranking in the 85th percentile statewide (185th of 1,219) and earning the district's only 4-star rating. It outperforms every other school in all math grade levels—for example, 68.9% of its 3rd graders are proficient in math versus 36.5% at Colbert Elementary School—and it does so while spending the least per student ($14,759). Hull-Sanford Elementary School is the most improved, jumping 84 ranking positions in one year despite serving a student body where 100% qualify for free/reduced lunch; it also boasts the district's lowest chronic absenteeism rate at 9.6%. Colbert Elementary School is inconsistent—its 4th grade math is the district's best (55.7%) while its 3rd grade math is the worst (36.5%).
