Summary

Allapattah Flats K-8 in Port St. Lucie, FL, is a large public school serving 1,347 students from Pre-K through 8th grade in the St. Lucie district, and it has transformed from a 1-star rating a decade ago into a consistent 3-star performer with a strong upward trajectory.

The school’s standout strength is its exceptional math and science program. An incredible 93% of students taking the Algebra 1 EOC were proficient, which is 39 points above the district average and 30 points above the state average. This performance is not a fluke, as the school has consistently outperformed the district by 30 to 50 points in recent years. In middle school math, Allapattah Flats excels, with 77% of 6th graders and 71% of 8th graders proficient, making it a top performer among nearby K-8 schools like Northport K-8 School and St. Lucie West K-8 School. Science scores are also a clear strength, with 67% of 5th graders and 66% of 8th graders proficient, a rare combination that many nearby schools struggle to maintain across both grade levels. The school achieves these results efficiently, spending $10,691 per student—less than peers like Northport K-8 ($13,012) and Parkway Elementary School ($12,397)—while outperforming them in overall rankings.

While Allapattah Flats shines in math and science, it has a notable weakness in 7th-grade math, where only 48% of students were proficient, 5 points below the state average. English Language Arts (ELA) scores are generally average, hovering near state averages, suggesting room for improvement. Chronic absenteeism, at 34.5%, is slightly above the state average but has dropped significantly from a post-pandemic high of 44.4%, showing positive momentum. For parents, this school offers a high-value option with a strong focus on math and science, achieving results that rival schools with lower poverty rates, such as Palm Pointe K8 School, while serving a slightly higher-needs population.

Open Quote The best way to describe the administration is arrogant and incompetent. They let good teachers go and kept the worst! They let the students run wild with little to no consequences. Example: Students were caught stealing teachers personal belongings. Nothing happened to these students and teachers were reprimanded for not locking their classrooms. Teachers complained every day to each other about the situation and the communication between administration and teachers was poor at best. Close Quote
