Summary

Englewood Elementary School in Englewood, FL, serves 564 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the highly-rated Sarasota district, which ranks 9th out of 70 districts in Florida.

This school truly shines in the early grades, with exceptional 3rd grade math and reading scores that outpace both the district and state averages by wide margins. For example, 90% of 3rd graders were proficient in math, which is 15 points higher than the district average and 24 points higher than the state average. In 3rd grade English Language Arts, 83% of students were proficient, outperforming nearby schools like Taylor Ranch Elementary (75%) and Venice Elementary (78%). The school also stands out for its low chronic absenteeism, which dropped to just 4.3% in 2022-2023, far below the state average of 30.9%. This consistency in attendance likely contributes to the strong academic foundation built in the early years.

However, a notable pattern emerges in the upper grades: while 3rd grade scores are elite, 5th grade performance dips below district averages in math (71% vs. 75%) and only slightly above in science (74% vs. 73%). This "5th grade slump" is a clear area for improvement, especially when compared to the nearby 5-star Taylor Ranch Elementary, which sustains stronger growth through all elementary grades. On a positive note, Englewood achieves these results efficiently, spending about $15,236 per student—less than several lower-performing nearby schools like Cranberry Elementary ($17,607) and Venice Elementary ($18,034). The school also significantly outperforms schools from the neighboring Charlotte district, such as Myakka River Elementary and Vineland Elementary, in nearly every subject, highlighting the strength of the Sarasota district's educational environment.

Open Quote We have two children in this fantastic school, 3rd and 4th grade. The kids love their teachers and their principal who seems to know every student in the whole school! Academic standards are on the highest level. Since my kids left their previous school (in Europe) they have been transformed to knowledge thirsty students in every subject. Teachers’ encouraging support makes the progress in learning amazing and exceeds our parents’ outmost expectations. Bulling, one of the most difficult and challenging problems of today’s schools are taken care of immediately, school staff have always this potential problem in focus, the principal acts direct and resolute to quench, before the problem has grown to severe magnitude. I would recommend this school to all parents. If all schools in America were like this, America would be unbeatable in all international comparisons. We simply love this school. Close Quote
