Summary

Berryhill Elementary School in Milton, FL, is a mid-sized public school serving 802 students in grades PK-5 within the Santa Rosa School District, a district ranked 22nd out of 70 in Florida.

Berryhill stands out as a solid, reliable choice, particularly for early math instruction. Its 3rd-grade math proficiency rate of 82% is the highest among traditional elementary schools in the immediate area, outpacing the district average by 9 points and the state average by 16 points. The school also maintains lower chronic absenteeism (18.9%) than many nearby peers, such as W. H. Rhodes Elementary (32.5%) and East Milton Elementary (31.9%), suggesting a stable and engaged student body. While Berryhill’s overall performance is above the district average in several subjects, it has experienced a slight dip in upper-grade math and science scores in recent years, dropping from a 4-star to a 3-star rating. Notably, the school achieves these results with a per-student spending of $10,239, which is less than lower-performing schools like Bagdad Elementary ($12,659) and W.H. Rhodes ($12,224), indicating efficient use of resources.

Interesting comparisons emerge with nearby schools. Just 4.67 miles away, Wallace Lake K-8 is a top-tier, 5-star school with exceptional test scores and very low poverty, highlighting a performance gap within the same district. Across the county line, schools from the Escambia district, such as R. C. Lipscomb Elementary, are competitive with Berryhill in several subjects, showing that individual school performance can vary significantly from district rankings. Overall, Berryhill offers a strong foundation, especially in early math, and its main challenge is to reverse the recent trend of declining performance in upper grades.

Open Quote This school is fine as long as your children are average. They paddle the children for discipline and give kindergarteners after school detention. The way some of the teachers are allowed to talk to the little ones is disgraceful. The good teachers have no power to do anything and there are a lot of not so great teachers. Parents are clearly not welcome in the school environment. Like I said if you have average kids who don't need any support and don't EVER get in trouble, this is a great school. Close Quote
