Summary

Wiregrass Elementary School is a public elementary school in Wesley Chapel, Florida, serving around 1,000 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Pasco school district, which is ranked 40 out of 67 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. Wiregrass Elementary has seen a decline in its statewide ranking over the past few years, going from 390th out of 2,182 Florida elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 863rd out of 2,258 in 2024-2025, though it maintains a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Wiregrass Elementary consistently outperforms the Pasco district and the state of Florida in standardized test scores across grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2024-2025, 70% of 3rd graders at Wiregrass were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 57% in Pasco and the state. In math, 68% of 3rd graders at Wiregrass were proficient or better, compared to 58% in Pasco and 63% statewide. However, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 18.4% in 2021-2022 to 31.4% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the district and state averages.

Wiregrass Elementary performs significantly better than the nearby New River Elementary School, which has struggled with low test scores and a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, it lags behind some of the higher-performing nearby charter schools, such as Pinecrest Academy Wesley Chapel and Union Park Charter Academy, which have 4- and 3-star ratings, respectively, and outperform Wiregrass on many test score metrics. The school's relatively low student-teacher ratio of 16.2 in 2023-2024 may contribute to its stronger academic performance.

Open Quote To add this school does not have homework. Which is a great thing since now we have more time for extra curricular activities and family time. School lets out close to 4pm. Close Quote

Open Quote I agree with a previous parent - I'm not sure what the teachers here actually do, it certainly doesn't seem to be teaching. I have two kids in school here (and I'm hoping more than anything they get into a school choice slot elsewhere!), neither one brings home any homework to do. Communication is very poor with most people at the school. Continually asking for "fundraising" donations and classroom "donation" of items, this school should give me money to pay for the tutors my kids will need in order to be ready for higher grades!! Open Quote No homework even for kids in higher grades. Teachers don't teach anything, relying on videos created by someone outside school. This place is not a school, but a daycare. Close Quote
