Summary

Odessa Elementary School in New Port Richey, FL, serves 984 students in grades PK through 5 within the Pasco district, and is a consistently strong performer with a notable strength in early-grade math.

Odessa Elementary stands out for its exceptional math performance, particularly in the early grades. In the 2025-2026 school year, 80% of 3rd graders and 88% of 4th graders were proficient in math, with the 4th-grade score being the highest among comparable area elementary schools and 26 percentage points above the district average. A unique highlight is that for four consecutive years, 100% of students taking the 6th-grade FAST math exam have scored proficient, suggesting a highly effective program for accelerating top math students. However, there is a notable "5th grade slump" in math, with only 54% of 5th graders proficient, which is 8 points below the state average and a significant drop from the 4th-grade performance. While the school has a 4-star rating and its test scores have improved over time, its state ranking has declined from the 93rd percentile to the 75th percentile, indicating that other schools across Florida are improving at a faster pace.

Compared to nearby schools, Odessa serves a relatively affluent community, with only 20.73% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, which is significantly lower than Seven Springs Elementary (55.44%) and Deer Park Elementary (46.37%). Despite its strong academics, Odessa has a chronic absenteeism rate of 18.6%, which is higher than top-performing neighbors like Trinity Elementary (12.0%) and Starkey Ranch K-8 (13.8%). Located just 2.27 miles from Trinity Elementary, a 5-star school ranked in the 94th percentile, Odessa provides a very good education but faces a direct competitive benchmark in its immediate area.

Open Quote Our daughter started Kindergarten at Odessa in 2019. Very organized and clean school. There is a strong sense of community, I have not see any indication of bullying and teachers seem able to give each child the attention they require. Close Quote

Open Quote only 30 minutes of recess for kindergarteners and tons of class and homework . even though studies are now showing kids should have more play this school only focuses on test scores Close Quote
