Summary

Anclote Elementary School in New Port Richey, FL, is a mid-sized public school serving 543 students in grades PK-5 within the Pasco district, where a high percentage of families (71.82%) qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school is facing significant challenges, with a decade-long decline in performance that has placed it among the lowest-ranked elementary schools in Florida. Currently, Anclote holds a 0-star rating and ranks in the 5th percentile statewide, a steep drop from its 2-star status nine years ago. A major concern is chronic absenteeism, which sits at 32.2%—nearly double the rate at nearby higher-performing schools like Trinity Oaks Elementary School (16.5%) and Deer Park Elementary School (25.0%). Academic proficiency in math and English Language Arts ranges from 33% to 43%, well below district averages of 54% to 62%, and far behind schools like Athenian Academy Of Technology And The Arts, which achieves 77% to 93% proficiency. While Anclote shares a high-poverty profile with some neighboring schools, its per-student spending ($12,098) is lower than that of Richey Elementary School ($14,417) and James M. Marlowe Elementary School ($14,594), despite similar levels of need.

Despite these difficulties, there is a glimmer of hope: in the 2022-2023 school year, Anclote's 4th-grade math proficiency reached 55%, actually exceeding the district average. This shows the school has the potential to improve, but that success was not sustained. The data also reveals that a student's neighborhood does not determine their future—schools like Deer Park and James M. Marlowe serve communities with similar poverty rates but achieve much better results. For parents, the most critical takeaway is that addressing chronic absenteeism appears to be the single most powerful lever for turning around Anclote's performance, and the school's success will likely depend on learning from the strategies of higher-performing, demographically similar schools in the same district.

Open Quote While some of the teacher’s seem to be professional and enjoy their profession, the administration leaves a lot to be desired. This school is poorly run from the top. The front desk is staffed with unprofessional and rude employees. I will be looking for an alternate school for my child. One year was more than enough time to realize my child deserves better.
