Summary

Everglades Elementary is a K-5 public school in West Palm Beach, FL, serving 818 students as part of the Palm Beach district, and it has historically been a high-performing school, though recent data shows a notable decline. The school has a relatively low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch (31.78% in 2024-2025), indicating a more affluent student body compared to many nearby schools. From 2016 to 2021, Everglades consistently ranked in the top 15% of Florida elementary schools with 4 and 5-star ratings, but it dropped to a 3-star rating and the 65th percentile in the most recent data—its lowest rank in a decade. This downward trajectory is a key concern, especially as chronic absenteeism has nearly doubled from 9.2% in 2019-2020 to 17.4% in 2023-2024, though it remains better than district and state averages.

Despite this decline, Everglades still outperforms most of its immediate neighbors in academic proficiency. For example, its English Language Arts proficiency rates (64-67%) and Science proficiency (69%) are well above schools like Renaissance Charter School At Cypress (45-61% ELA), Melaleuca Elementary School (42-51% ELA), and Liberty Park Elementary School (32-46% ELA). However, it is not the top performer in the area—that title belongs to Equestrian Trails Elementary, a 5-star school in the 96th percentile with significantly higher test scores (e.g., 90% vs. 67% in 5th Grade ELA). Everglades occupies a solid, above-average middle ground, but its recent downward trend is a key differentiator from its peers.

An interesting finding is the school's lower spending per student ($12,936 in 2024-2025) compared to many lower-performing neighbors like Melaleuca Elementary School ($15,075) and Benoist Farms Elementary School ($18,718), suggesting operational efficiency. Additionally, a remarkable "6th Grade Math Anomaly" shows 100% proficiency for the last four consecutive years, likely reflecting advanced students taking higher-grade-level tests. For parents, Everglades remains a strong option in the area, but the rising absenteeism and falling state rank are warning signs that the school's leadership should address to return to its former 4-5 star status.

Open Quote Our children currently attend this wonderful school. We love the cutting edge technology they keep up on and are bringing into the school. Our children love the school, the teachers and staff and the great friends they've made. Our school has a great SAC team and PTO team that are doing all they can with researching new technology and educational tools and raising the money to bring in these new and exciting educational tools to our children. We have a great group of parents and parent volunteers that do their part in fundraising, volunteering time helping out in the school or at school related events so that the teachers can be in the classrooms teaching our wonderful students. Everglades Elementary School ROCKS! We are grateful for all they do! GO PANTHERS!! Close Quote
