Summary

Palm Springs Elementary School in Palm Springs, FL, is a large Title I school serving 1,069 students in grades PK-5 within the Palm Beach district, but it has faced persistent challenges, ranking in the bottom 15% of Florida elementary schools for the past decade and earning a 1-star rating for seven consecutive years.

The most critical issue at Palm Springs Elementary is an extremely high chronic absenteeism rate of 32.8% in the 2023-2024 school year, meaning nearly one in three students misses significant amounts of school. This rate is dramatically higher than nearby schools like Meadow Park Elementary (16.5% absenteeism) and Diamond View Elementary (22.4% absenteeism), both just a few miles away. This attendance problem is likely a primary driver of the school's low academic performance, as students consistently score below district and state averages in nearly every subject and grade level—for example, only 42% of 3rd graders were proficient in ELA compared to 60% statewide. Despite spending $15,259 per student in 2024-2025, which is comparable to or higher than some neighboring schools, the school is not translating those resources into academic gains, pointing to absenteeism as the core obstacle.

There is a slight upward trend in some test scores over the past few years, such as 3rd grade ELA rising from 26% to 42% proficiency, but these gains are too small to move the school out of the bottom tier. A puzzling bright spot is the school's 90-100% proficiency in 6th grade math for the last four years, which is an extreme outlier compared to its other subjects and may reflect a highly selective advanced program. The contrast with Meadow Park Elementary, which has lower poverty rates and significantly higher test scores (70% in 3rd grade ELA), suggests that Palm Springs Elementary's challenges are specific to its school culture and operations rather than just the neighborhood. For parents, the path to improvement hinges on a comprehensive effort to reduce chronic absenteeism, as without solving this foundational issue, academic progress will remain limited.

Open Quote I went here during Bush jr's first year of Presidency. I know because one of my most vivid memories of my childhood was looking up in the sky and just seeing "BUSH" on the banner a plane was dragging behind, signifying his "winning" the election. Sadly, I can say that this was my fondest moment within those school boundaries. I'd gone to three different elementary schools and this was by far the most atrocious, pathetic, sad excuse for a school I have ever come to know in my life.

Some of my worst memories are here. This isn't just some kid with a grudge against the system. I'm 22 years old now and am now entering my Bachelor's program. I just happened to remember this place and scoured the internet to check it out and see how it's been doing and it doesn't look good. This place was awful. Back in those years, any reason to "celebrate" and not teach the students was welcomed with unnecessarily long, extended periods of time. I remember celebrating May Day and the games and shenanigans lasted more than a full week. I remember, any time we had a substitute teacher come in, the children would misbehave worse than I could imagine now. Kids would be jumping desks, screaming, throwing chairs and breaking things. Paper would fly and not a single thing would be taught that day. This was something normal for that school. The only time that a sub had a class of quiet children was the day the twin towers fell. I was in third grade and everyone was in shock. It's weird; you don't think third graders could really comprehend something like that, but we all took it in and it shook us to our core. But I'm getting off track.

Basically, this school was the worst thing to ever facilitate education. I recall partying for a week because our school, for the first time in years, or ever, had jumped from an F school to a D school. I shudder to think I spent 3 years at this place.

1/10 would not recommend. Close Quote
