Summary

Flora Ridge Elementary School in Kissimmee, FL, serves 765 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade and is part of the Osceola County School District, which has a 1-star rating and ranks 57th out of 70 districts in Florida. The school itself has a 1-star rating and ranks in the 10th percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year, with a history of low performance over the past decade, though there was a slight improvement in 2020-2021 before declining again.

One key differentiator is that Flora Ridge has a relatively lower rate of economic disadvantage compared to its immediate neighbors, with about 47% of students eligible for free or reduced lunch, yet it still underperforms them academically. For example, Thacker Avenue Elementary For International Studies (18th percentile) and Kissimmee Elementary School (12th percentile) both outperform Flora Ridge despite having higher poverty rates. The most dramatic contrast is with schools just a few miles away in the Orange County district, such as West Creek Elementary (92nd percentile, 5-star) and Endeavor Elementary (80th percentile, 4-star), highlighting a sharp geographic disparity in educational outcomes.

Chronic absenteeism is a critical and worsening problem at Flora Ridge, with a rate of 37.1% in 2023-2024, significantly higher than the state average of 31.4% and the district average of 34.9%. This is likely a primary driver of the school's low academic performance. However, there is a glimmer of hope in 5th-grade science, where proficiency has climbed from 23% in 2022-2023 to 49% in 2025-2026, close to the district average of 51%. The school spends $12,692 per student, higher than the state average and several higher-performing nearby schools, suggesting that the issue is not a lack of funding but how funds are utilized. The charter schools in the area show mixed results, with Renaissance Charter School At Tapestry (29th percentile) outperforming Flora Ridge, while Victory Charter School K-5 (7th percentile) performs even worse, indicating that district-level factors are a more powerful predictor of success than school type.

Open Quote I have two of my children attending Flora Ridge. Its their first year in Flora Ridge and I can tell its the worst school that my kids are attended. We come from Lee vista area and schools there are great. Orange county schools its much much better than osceola. The school staff are very rude and have a horrible attitude with parents and they dont know was going on in the school. School dismissal is terrible.... In overall a gave -0 to this school and the school grade comes from D to C OMG!!! HORRIBLE Close Quote
