Summary

P. M. Wells Charter Academy is an elementary and middle school in Kissimmee, Florida, serving 416 students in grades K-8. The school is part of the Osceola School District, which is ranked 57 out of 67 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. P. M. Wells Charter Academy has had fluctuating performance over the years, with its statewide ranking ranging from 1870 out of 2258 Florida elementary schools to 1061 out of 2247, and a 1-2 star rating from SchoolDigger.

One of the key challenges facing P. M. Wells Charter Academy is its consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 30.2% to 34.9% in recent years, which are significantly higher than the state and district averages. The school also generally performs below the Osceola district and Florida state averages in most subject areas and grade levels, with the exception of Algebra 1 and Geometry End-of-Course (EOC) exams, where the school outperforms the district and state. Additionally, the school struggles the most in 3rd-5th grade English Language Arts (ELA) and Math, with proficiency rates often 10-20 percentage points below the district and state.

P. M. Wells Charter Academy serves a high-need student population, with 50% to 74.28% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch in recent years. When compared to nearby traditional public schools, the charter school generally performs at a similar or slightly lower level in most academic areas, but its performance in Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC exams stands out as a strength. Addressing the school's high chronic absenteeism and targeting interventions to improve its overall academic performance could be key priorities for the school and its community.

Open Quote I've been in this school since kindergarten and I feel like I've wasted a whole decade on this awful school, the food is decent, sports are underfunded, and there's a lack of school spirit. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is better than people realize. I have noticed an improvement this school year since the new principal came on board. The school is now rated a B, is almost entirely staffed by certified teachers (not substitutes like last year), dismissal is a lot quicker and smoother, and is on the right track. Close Quote
