Open Quote I'm not worried about my son being in an over crowded Middle School, wondering if he's going to come home talking more about fights, bad language, bad behavior than he is about his grades and classwork. So happy we made the move to Lake Nona. The teachers really care and are doing a great job in my opinion! Close Quote

Open Quote New School 2011-2012 was 1st year! Lake Nona Middle School is an above average public school. The school is comparatively small as it was constructed for the up and coming Lake Nona/Medical City community. Unfortunetly in the school's first year it became a relief valve for other Orange County schools located outside of the Lake Nona community. This has already forced the school to bring in classroom trailers during the last few months of the school year to handle the overload of students.

Rezoning has hurt the school badly as undesirables, Facebook bullies fights, and Neighborhood/former school allegiance was a forefront problem in the school's first year. In my opinion the good people of Lake Nona were overwhelmed. It should be noted that Lake Nona's 2010-2011 middle schoolers attended Lake Nona High School during the construction of the LNMS and these problems didn't exist for the younger kids in the school.

Good News! The LNMS staff is exceptional and the teachers are beyond reproach. The teachers keep you informed on progress book and will gladly schedule a parent teacher conference, along with daily or weekly updates from the principle. This review is coming from the parent of a B+ student.

If you are moving to the Lake Nona community you will be happy, good schools, growing area, friendly people, diverse, socially engaged, and well groomed in monetary status. If not for rezoning LNMS would be a 5 star school in all areas to include test scores. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
