Summary

Stone Lakes Elementary is a K-5 public school in Orlando, FL, serving 617 students in the Avalon Park / Waterford Lakes area, and it consistently outperforms both the Orange district and state averages across all subjects.

This school stands out for its balanced academic strength, with proficiency rates in ELA, Math, and Science for grades 3-5 ranging from 70% to 82% in the most recent school year. It is a powerhouse in 5th Grade Science, achieving an 82% proficiency rate—22 points above the state average and the highest among nearby schools like Lawton Chiles Elementary and Columbia Elementary. While Stone Lakes has historically been a top-tier school, ranking in the top 5% of Florida elementary schools in the mid-2010s, it has experienced a gradual decline to its current 83rd percentile. This is not a crisis, but it is a trend to watch, especially as nearby Avalon Elementary has recently surpassed it in overall rank. A slight dip in 5th Grade ELA (70% proficient) compared to its own 3rd and 4th grade scores suggests an area for potential focus.

Stone Lakes benefits from a competitive cluster of high-performing schools in the Avalon Park area, including Timber Lakes Elementary and Sunrise Elementary, creating a strong educational environment. Its chronic absenteeism rate of 20.3% is lower than many peers like Castle Creek Elementary (28.6%), though it remains above pre-pandemic levels. With moderate spending per student ($13,248) and strong academic returns, Stone Lakes offers a well-rounded, effective education, particularly in science, making it a solid choice for families seeking consistency and high performance in a supportive community.

Open Quote This school is amazing. They encourage learning to match my son's abilities and are very organized. The teachers so far have been excellent and have great communication to let me know what's going on in class as well as events for the school. There are many optional assignments that encourage competition in learning and are mostly done online at home. They offer many extracurricular programs and all are very affordable and do a great job. This school really cares about every child that they teach. Close Quote
