Open Quote I feel that the teachers do an excellent job of bringing the most potential from each student. However, I feel that there is a disjoint from those that have and those that have not. The "Have Not" parents do not participate in their student's progress. I am tired of everyone blaming the schools when the parents don't take the responsibility of their children. They drop them off early in the morning, they get a breakfast, get a teacher baby sitter until class time, and then after school they go to the after-program, go home and watch tv and then go to bed. This ME Me generation needs to stop.

Most children don't even have a library card, have not been to the library or even the zoo. They have not been out in one of the State's National Parks, like Merritt Island. They don't belong to organizations like the Boys or Girl's Scouts.

Retirees spend 1 yes 1 hour a week reading to a child that needs help in your school. The statistic is that if a child does not read or comprehend what they are reading by the third grade, they will not graduate. If you golf, then you can spend 1 hour a week helping to build our nation into what it once represented...growth. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
