Summary

Carlos E. Haile Middle School in Bradenton, FL, is a public school serving 715 students in grades 6-8 within the Manatee County School District, and it consistently outperforms its district's 2-star rating by earning 3 or 4 stars in every year of available data.

Haile Middle School stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced math and 8th-grade science. An impressive 93% of students are proficient in Algebra 1 and 100% in Geometry, far exceeding district and state averages. Similarly, 8th-grade science proficiency (64%) is 14 points above the district average and 12 points above the state, a clear strength compared to nearby schools like W. D. Sugg Middle School (21%) and Electa Lee Magnet Middle School (28%). However, the school has a notable "dip" in 7th-grade math, where proficiency drops to just 37%—well below the district (47%) and state (53%) averages. This pattern is unique among high-performing nearby schools like Rowlett Middle Academy (81%) and Dr Mona Jain Middle School (49%), suggesting a potential issue with curriculum or instruction at that grade level.

Interestingly, Haile and Dr. Mona Jain Middle School are only 2.33 miles apart and share similar state rankings, yet Haile outperforms Jain in 8th-grade science and 6th-grade math, while Jain leads in English Language Arts and Civics. Haile also has a lower chronic absenteeism rate (25.6%) than the district (29.4%) and state (31.4%) averages, indicating strong student engagement. Spending is not a direct indicator of success here; Haile's per-student spending ($10,574) is near the middle of the pack, yet it achieves strong results, unlike Lincoln Memorial Middle School, which spends the most ($16,248) but has a 1-star rating. This suggests effective resource allocation and instruction drive Haile's performance.

Open Quote My mother raised me that if I couldn't say something nice, not to say anything at all. The only nice things I can say about this school is that the nurse is a great lady and has always made sure I was kept in the loop if my son was feeling ill. The other nice thing is that the old 6th Grade councilor was great! Mr. Romo was always willing to take time out to talk to my son and make sure he was doing ok. I have pulled my son from school for the last few weeks of the year. He was hospitalized in Manatee Glens because of what was happening at that school with bullies and his difficulties in math, which he got NO help for! Both of my youngest boys will be home schooled next year. I would rather have them in an environment that I know they will get the help they need, then in a school that will disregard both parent and student concerns. Sorry mom, I know it isn't nice but I had to say it anyway. Close Quote
