Summary

Lehigh Senior High School in Lehigh Acres, FL, is a large public high school serving 2,550 students in grades 9-12 within the Lee County School District, where over half of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Lehigh Senior High stands out for its exceptional graduation rate of 96.5% in the 2024-2025 school year, which is significantly higher than the district (89.8%) and state (92.2%) averages. However, this success is paired with a notable challenge: only 24% of students are proficient in Algebra 1, and 30% in Geometry, compared to state averages that are more than double. In contrast, the school shows relative strength in Biology 1 (67% proficient) and US History (64%), and has shown consistent improvement in English Language Arts, rising from 40% proficiency in 2022-2023 to 56% in 2025-2026. Chronic absenteeism is a concern, with 43.2% of students chronically absent, which is higher than the district average of 34.6% but comparable to nearby schools like Riverdale High School (44.6%) and Dunbar High School (44.3%).

When compared to Gateway High School, located just 2.5 miles away with a similar student population, Lehigh trails in nearly every academic metric. Gateway achieves 95% proficiency in Biology 1, 55% in Geometry, and 68% in 10th Grade ELA, along with a lower chronic absenteeism rate of 35.7%. This suggests that Lehigh's challenges are not solely due to demographics, and that strategies used at Gateway could be replicated. The school's per-student spending of $9,657 is slightly above its peers, indicating that performance issues are not simply a matter of funding. Ultimately, Lehigh Senior High excels at getting students to graduate but faces a critical need to improve math instruction and address chronic absenteeism to ensure students are truly learning at grade level.

Open Quote If you are not a cheerleader or on a sports team, especially football then you are just a number. The Principal in 2013 actually had a revote for homecoming court because there were "not enough" football players and cheerleaders on the homecoming court. My child was one of the females that was voted off the homecoming court after being told she had made it. She cried for days, I complained to the Principal, was told it was her decision and to live with it! Fraternization among staff is also a huge concern. Children should not be coming home speaking of their teachers' lives outside of school because the teachers speak of it and are unprofessional. Teachers in remedial classes give students help on the FCAT and state tests. I am pretty sure this is illegal and considered cheating. On one test they gave out a calculator when the directions said "not to give out a calculator". It was never reported. Shady things happen at this school. I was told by Lee County Administrator that I can look to transfer to another school. This does not fix the problem here at Lehigh Senior High. Too bad, my child liked it here with her friends the past 3 years. Close Quote
