Summary

Strawberry Crest High School in Dover, FL, is a large public high school serving 2,501 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Hillsborough district, and it stands out for its exceptional graduation rate of 94.7%—well above the district and state averages—and a notably low chronic absenteeism rate of 28.2%, which is significantly better than nearby schools like Armwood High School (53.0%) and Brandon High School (57.2%).

Academically, Strawberry Crest shines in humanities, with 77% proficiency in US History and 62-65% in English Language Arts, outperforming the state and many peers like Brandon High School (37-39% in ELA). However, the school faces a notable challenge in Algebra 1, where only 26% of students are proficient—a stark contrast to the district average of 63% and its own strong Geometry score of 56%. This "Algebra 1 paradox" suggests a specific instructional hurdle rather than a school-wide issue, and it's a key area for parents to watch, as Algebra 1 is a gateway to advanced math and science courses.

Compared to other area schools, Strawberry Crest is a model of consistency, ranking in the 64th to 73rd percentile over the past decade, while schools like Tampa Bay Technical High School and Dr. Kiran C. Patel High School show more volatility. Despite spending $8,551 per student—less than Bloomingdale High School ($9,381) and Plant City High School ($9,005)—Strawberry Crest achieves strong outcomes in key areas, suggesting efficient use of resources. With a moderate level of economic diversity (38.54% free/reduced lunch), the school effectively fosters student engagement and high graduation rates, making it a reliable choice for families seeking a well-rounded high school experience.

Open Quote Is a poorly run high school. Think nothing about missing a students name at award or even naming all AP at graduation and forgetting the #1 AP. School has most of the dead wood teacher with 15 years plus in the school system. It's not the first year of the new school anymore. They need to learn how to manage a school. No people skills.
