Summary

Grady Elementary School is a high-performing public school in Tampa, FL, serving 548 students in grades PK-5 within the Hillsborough district, and it consistently ranks among the top 2% of elementary schools in Florida.

Grady stands out as an academic leader, particularly in math, where proficiency rates have reached an extraordinary 98% in both 3rd and 5th grades—more than 30 points above the state average. This "Grady Math Advantage" is a consistent trend over the past four years, reflecting a deeply effective curriculum. In 5th grade science, Grady also leads nearby top schools with an 89% proficiency rate, outpacing Mabry Elementary School (86%) and Gorrie Elementary School (80%). The school’s chronic absenteeism rate is just 9.3%, far below the district and state averages of about 31%, indicating a highly engaged student body. While Grady is part of a cluster of excellent South Tampa schools—including Mabry, Gorrie, and Roosevelt Elementary School—it consistently leads this group, especially in math and science.

Interestingly, Grady’s success is not driven by higher spending. It spends about $11,799 per student, which is less than nearby schools with lower performance, such as West Tampa Elementary School ($16,618) and Anderson Elementary School ($15,765). This suggests efficient resource use and a strong school culture. One area to watch is a slight dip in 4th grade English Language Arts proficiency (79% in 2025-2026), which has recurred in recent years, though it remains well above district averages. Overall, Grady offers a proven track record of elite academic performance and a supportive community, making it a top choice for families in the region.

Open Quote Fantastic, family friendly school. First in Area 1 FCAT scores (the information on this site about 2014 FCAT scores is incorrect), Third in overall FCAT scores for the entire Hillsborough County School District. First in the District on SAT-10 scores for reading and math in the first grade. PTA Principal of the Year for Hillsborough County and many more awards that I can't even remember right now. Very caring teachers and administration. Close Quote
