Summary

North Shore Elementary is a public elementary school in Jacksonville, Florida, serving 665 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Duval school district, which is ranked 54 out of 67 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

North Shore Elementary faces several challenges, including consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, significantly lower test scores compared to district and state averages, and a very high percentage of students from low-income families. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 25% of 3rd graders were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 51% in the district and 57% statewide. The school also spends more per student ($9,935 in 2023-2024) than the district and state averages, but this does not seem to translate into better academic outcomes.

Interestingly, the nearby schools in the Duval school district show a wide range of performance. Some schools, like R.V. Daniels Elementary and John E. Ford K-8, perform significantly better than North Shore Elementary, while others, like Susie E. Tolbert Elementary and Northwestern Legends Elementary, perform similarly or even worse. The nearby magnet schools, such as R.V. Daniels Elementary, John E. Ford K-8, and R.L. Brown Gifted and Talented Academy, tend to have better academic outcomes, lower chronic absenteeism rates, and lower student-teacher ratios compared to North Shore Elementary and other non-magnet schools in the district.

Open Quote I'm so unhappy with this school. My child have severe melt downs that could be avoided if the staff would take time out to listen to him and not label him as a problem child. I know as a parent my child has a problem that's deeper then ADHD and I'm trying my best to get him more help or to get him where he need to be in order to prosper and grow. At this point this school/staff is not qualified to handle my child and it's really upsetting because their not qualified to handle him. That they would suspend him from school and hinder him from learning...maybe I need to take it up with the school board and see where we can go from there. Now I do give credit to a few of the staff members that handles my child very well no names need to be given... At the end of the day I need my baby out of this school ASAP Close Quote
