Summary

Biscayne Beach Elementary School in Miami Beach, FL, serves 525 students in grades PK through 5 within the Miami-Dade school district, and it has shown a strong upward trend in its state ranking over the past few years, climbing from the 36th percentile to the 55th percentile.

This school has a distinct academic profile, with exceptional strength in mathematics—especially in 4th grade, where 87% of students were proficient in math for two consecutive years, far exceeding district and state averages. However, English Language Arts (ELA) scores consistently lag behind district averages, creating a "math-strong, ELA-weak" pattern. Science performance is a bright spot, with 65% of 5th graders proficient, well above the district average. The school spends a relatively high $15,923 per student, which is notably more than nearby high-performing schools like North Beach Elementary School ($12,436) and Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center ($10,774), yet its overall outcomes are middling, suggesting that how funds are allocated matters more than the total amount spent.

Compared to nearby schools, Biscayne Beach sits in the middle: it outperforms the struggling Treasure Island Elementary School (33rd percentile) but falls short of the top-tier North Beach Elementary School (94th percentile). Chronic absenteeism, while improving from 25.6% to 19.8%, remains a challenge and is higher than at Miami Shores Elementary School (14.4%). The school's favorable student-teacher ratio of 15.9 and its upward trajectory in state rankings are positive signs, but replicating the success seen in 4th-grade math across other grades and subjects will be key to continued improvement.

Open Quote Think this is a very good school. The teachers are very dedicated. They put a lot of effort into reaching and teaching their students and many incorporate extra creative activities within the teaching of their lessons to stimulate students.

They have a yearly Multicultural Week event that each class participates in. During this week students learn about a specific country within their class. They study about the country, learn about language, ethnicity, religion, music, art, food and they decorate the class according to this country. Then they put on a play/presentation where all classes get a chance to come by and also learn about the specific country. The week incorporates a lot of teaching, international and national information, and a broader education about the world.

I find this and other activities that the school does very enriching for students and parents alike. Close Quote
