Summary

Somerset Parkland Academy is a large K-8 charter school in Miami, FL, serving 992 students within the Broward school district, and it has earned a 4-star rating from Schooldigger for six consecutive years, consistently ranking in the 82nd to 88th percentile statewide.

This school stands out for its exceptional middle school performance, where students in grades 6-8 significantly outperform district and state averages in English Language Arts and Math. For example, 7th-grade math proficiency reaches 87%, far exceeding the state average of 53%. The school also excels in high school-level End-of-Course exams, with 100% proficiency in Biology 1 and 94% in Geometry. While it is not the absolute top performer in its affluent neighborhood—Sunset Elementary School (in the 100th percentile) and Somerset Academy Elementary School (South Miami Campus) (in the 99th percentile) achieve higher elementary scores—Somerset Parkland Academy offers a reliable, high-quality education with strong consistency across all grades. Notably, the school operates efficiently, spending only $8,295 per student compared to nearby schools like South Miami K-8 Center ($17,050) and Ludlam Elementary School ($17,446), yet achieving higher academic rankings.

A key area of concern is a dramatic drop in 8th-grade science proficiency, which fell to just 24% in the 2025-2026 school year, well below the district average of 49%. This sharp decline from the previous year (63%) warrants attention. Additionally, the school has made significant progress in reducing chronic absenteeism to 16.5%, nearly half the district average of 33.6%, reflecting a highly engaged student body. For families seeking a school that combines strong academics, efficient resource use, and a focus on middle school preparation, Somerset Parkland Academy is a compelling choice, though the science anomaly should be investigated further.

Open Quote Worst school I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. I’ve never seen so many kids leave a school. The principal is part time and barely works there. SHE IS USELESS AND IGNORES DEATH THREATS. The teachers are quitting as are the room moms and taking their children out. No library, no gifted program, unlicensed teachers, terrible food, playground is toddler sized. Cafeteria food is awful. They threaten they record the kids and ignore if they are bullied or threatened. No challenge academically. Almost all kids have straight A’s. Poor security, as they let a kindergartner wander out of the school, down the street, into a neighborhood, where the sheriff had to post her face on Facebook. RUN Close Quote
