Quest Elementary School

Summary:

Quest Elementary School is a high-performing public elementary school in Melbourne, Florida, serving 691 students in grades PK-6. As part of the Brevard District, which is ranked 22 out of 68 districts in Florida, Quest Elementary has consistently ranked among the top elementary schools in the state, with a high of 40th out of over 2,000 schools in the 2015-2016 school year.

Quest Elementary's academic performance consistently outpaces the Brevard District and the state of Florida, with 80% of 5th-grade students proficient or better in Statewide Science, compared to 58% for Brevard and 53% for Florida. The school also has a more diverse student body than nearby schools, such as Hans Christian Andersen Elementary and Sherwood Elementary, with a higher percentage of Hispanic, Asian, and students of two or more races. Additionally, Quest Elementary has a relatively low chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 3.7% to 10.4% over the past few years, which is lower than the state average and several of the nearby schools.

Compared to nearby schools, Quest Elementary serves a more affluent community, with only 19-20% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, significantly lower than schools like Hans Christian Andersen Elementary (56%) and Sherwood Elementary (65%). This may contribute to the school's high academic performance, as it has seen a steady increase in per-student spending, from $6,644 in 2019-2020 to $9,395 in 2022-2023, which is higher than the state average and several of the nearby schools.

Open Quote My experience has been with a pre K class. One of the teachers is horrible and doesn't teach at all. The kids wander around and no real directed learning takes place. If you want your child to be educated during pre K do NOT attend Quest. They would learn more from PBS. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
