Summary

Odyssey Charter School is a K-12 public charter school in Wilmington, DE, serving 2,286 students as its own district with a favorable 12.7:1 student-teacher ratio. If you're exploring school options in the Wilmington area, Odyssey stands out for its exceptional attendance and solid academic performance, making it a dependable choice for families seeking a stable, well-rounded education.

One of the most impressive things about Odyssey is how consistently students show up—only 7.9% of students are chronically absent, which is less than half the state average of 17.1%. This strong attendance culture likely supports the school's academic wins. In English Language Arts, Odyssey beats state averages across nearly every grade, with particularly strong results in 5th grade (55% proficient vs. 46% statewide) and 7th grade (57% vs. 43%). Math scores also outpace the state, especially in elementary grades—4th grade math hits 51% proficiency compared to 40% statewide. Social studies is a standout, with 4th graders scoring 55% proficient versus 39% statewide. When compared to nearby ASPIRA Delaware, Odyssey outperforms it significantly in both ELA and math, and it also beats Mount Pleasant Elementary School in most subjects, though Mount Pleasant edges ahead in 3rd grade. That said, Newark Charter School remains the top academic performer in the region, with higher proficiency rates across the board.

Odyssey does have a few areas that need attention. High school science is a notable weakness—9th grade proficiency is just 24% versus 38% statewide—and 8th grade math (35%) and SAT math (22%) leave room for growth. However, the school is cost-efficient, spending $11,529 per student, far less than specialized schools like Delaware School for the Deaf or Leach (John G.) School. Despite being classified as an "alternative" school, Odyssey functions like a traditional comprehensive school, serving a large general population with stable staffing and consistent results. For parents prioritizing attendance, strong elementary and middle school academics, and a well-managed institution, Odyssey is a solid, reliable option in the Wilmington area.

Open Quote My daughter has been enrolled @ OCS K-5th grade. She has excelled at this school and continues to be academically advanced when compared to her peers in other schools. She is currently reading at a 9th grade level & would be considered a honors math student in other schools. I would recommend this school to any parent. Don't be put off by the Greek language offering, we are not of Greek heritage but I love that my daughter now speaks a foreign language with ease. Only concern ... where to enroll her once she completes all available grades at OCS. Close Quote
