Summary

Friendship PCS - Collegiate Academy is a public charter high school located in the 4095 Minnesota Avenue NE area of Washington, DC, serving roughly 745 students in grades 9 through 12 as part of the Friendship PCS network. It is one of the largest high schools in its immediate area, with about double the enrollment of nearby charters such as Idea PCS, Cesar Chavez PCS, and The SEED PCS. The school's performance rating has slipped recently, from a 3-star, 14th-place showing in 2023-2024 to a 2-star rating and 25th of 36 DC high schools in 2025-2026.

The clearest bright spot is the graduation rate, which jumped from 67.1% in 2023-2024 to 81.4% in 2024-2025 — above the DC state average of 78.7% and higher than nearby Eastern High School, The SEED PCS, Cesar Chavez PCS, and Maya Angelou PCS. Test scores, however, remain a concern. On the 2025-2026 DC CAPE assessments, just 18.6% of students were proficient in ELA and only 4.2% in math, far below state averages. Math is especially challenging: Geometry proficiency is 2.4% and Algebra I is 6.1%. By contrast, Phelps Architecture, Construction and Engineering High School, just 1.41 miles away, posted 41.7% ELA proficiency and 10.5% math proficiency.

The school spends a mid-range $33,815 per student and has a favorable student-teacher ratio of 10.9, yet those resources have not produced top-tier results. Friendship Collegiate appears to be at a crossroads: rankings for its key student subgroups have fallen from the top quartile in 2023-2024 to the bottom quarter in 2025-2026, and proficiency has declined even as graduation rates climbed. English II is the relative academic strength, coming much closer to district averages than any math course. Whether Friendship can recapture its earlier momentum will likely determine whether it becomes a standout charter high school or continues to trail peers like Phelps and Idea PCS.
