Summary:
In ZIP code 06851 (Norwalk, CT), there are two public high schools serving grades 9–12: Norwalk High School and P-Technical Norwalk, both part of the Norwalk School District and located at the same address. These schools share a campus and serve similar economically disadvantaged populations, yet they deliver very different results. P-Technical Norwalk is the clear standout, ranking 55th of 133 Connecticut high schools (59th percentile) with a 3-star rating, while Norwalk High School ranks 97th (27th percentile) with a 1-star rating.

Chronic absenteeism tells a similar story: 15.9% at P-Tech versus 27.8% at Norwalk High, which is well above the state average of 16.4%. The smaller school also has a better student-teacher ratio (10.4:1 vs. 14.2:1), and its 388 students receive a much more personalized experience than Norwalk High's 1,494 students.
The trends are moving in opposite directions. Between 2024–25 and 2025–26, Norwalk High School declined sharply in every tested subject, with science dropping 9.4 points, while P-Technical Norwalk improved across the board, including an 18-point jump in science. Given similar free/reduced-price lunch rates (about 51% at both schools), these gaps suggest that school structure, class size, and learning environment matter greatly. Although per-student spending data is incomplete, the key takeaway for parents is clear: P-Technical Norwalk is the higher-performing option in 06851, while Norwalk High School faces serious challenges with attendance and achievement.
