Harborside Middle School is a public middle school in Milford, CT, serving roughly 400 students in grades 6–8 as part of the Milford School District. It currently ranks 81st out of 258 Connecticut middle schools, placing it in the 69th percentile with a 3-star rating. That solidly above-average position, however, masks a notable slide from a stronger recent past.

The school's clearest strengths are attendance and class size. Chronic absenteeism at Harborside was just 11.1% in the most recent year, outpacing the Milford School District at 12.6% and the statewide rate of 16.4%. Even during the pandemic-era attendance crisis of 2021–2022, Harborside kept chronic absenteeism below 10% while the state rate approached 24%. The school also benefits from a low 9.7:1 student–teacher ratio, lower than nearby Hillcrest Middle School (13.7) and Amity Middle School: Orange (11.3), meaning students are likely to get more individualized attention. Test scores remain above state averages in every subject and grade, with especially strong science results, and the school serves its low-income students particularly well, with this group ranking at the 72nd percentile statewide.

The concern for parents is the trajectory. Harborside ranked as high as 38th in the state in 2022–2023 and 49th in 2023–2024, but has slipped each year since. Math proficiency in 7th and 8th grades has fallen below Milford district averages, and the school's once-clear advantage over its Milford peers has eroded. In 2023–2024, Harborside was the standout Milford middle school, ranking 49th versus West Shore Middle School at 87th and East Shore Middle School at 93rd. Today all three sit in a narrow band around the 70th percentile. Harborside remains far ahead of nearby Stratford and West Haven schools like David Wooster Middle School and Harry B. Flood Middle School, but trails elite neighbors such as Hillcrest and Amity. With strong attendance and small class sizes as foundations, Harborside remains a credible mid-tier option in southwestern Connecticut.
