Sanborn Elementary School

Summary:

Sanborn Elementary School is a public elementary school in Longmont, Colorado, serving 267 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the St. Vrain Valley School District, which is ranked 33 out of 116 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

While Sanborn has a higher percentage of Hispanic students (34.46%) compared to the state average, its academic performance, as measured by CMAS test scores, is generally below the district and state averages across all grades and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 30.2% of Sanborn students were proficient or better in CMAS Math, compared to 42.5% for the district and 34.2% for the state. Sanborn has also consistently ranked in the bottom half of Colorado elementary schools, with a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger in recent years, lower than the district and state averages.

Interestingly, Sanborn's academic performance is significantly lower than many of the nearby schools in the St. Vrain Valley School District, such as Hygiene Elementary and Central Elementary, which both have much higher CMAS proficiency rates and are ranked in the top 10% of Colorado elementary schools. This disparity may be due to Sanborn's high percentage of students (60.3%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families, as well as the school's declining enrollment and gradual increase in the percentage of Hispanic students over the past few years.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Worst school, if your child has health issues be prepared to have to deal with one of the worst district nurses, as well as this school will put policies over your child's mental health and education. Both my children are behind due to the negligence of this school. I would not enroll your children here. Close Quote

Open Quote Underperforms in every category across all levels and the teachers blame the parents for any issues with the students despite never handing out homework. My daughter has come home confused multiple times regarding reading, writing, and maths, requiring me to re-educate her over several hours to correct their curriculum and teaching breakdown. A lot of young teachers without adequate teaching experience. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
