Summary

Sanborn Elementary School is a small PK-5 school in Longmont, Colorado, serving 209 students within the St. Vrain Valley School District No. Re1J. The school has shown remarkable progress in recent years, climbing from the 25th percentile statewide in 2018-19 to the 58th percentile in 2025-26, and now holds a 3-star rating. With 62.7% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, Sanborn serves a significant share of families with economic need, yet it outperforms many neighboring schools with similar demographic profiles. The school also enjoys a low student-teacher ratio of 12.2, among the lowest in the area.

Sanborn's reading and language arts results are a standout. Overall ELA proficiency (53.7%) tops both the district (51.0%) and state (44.7%) averages, and the school's 3rd grade reading proficiency (66.7%) is the highest among nearby schools, edging out even the high-performing Hygiene Elementary School (65.2%) and Central Elementary School (65.3%). Chronic absenteeism is another bright spot: at 18.8%, it is well below the district rate of 23.1% and state rate of 28.4%, suggesting strong student engagement. This attendance advantage is especially notable when compared to nearby Northridge Elementary School, which has a similar poverty profile but an absenteeism rate of 30.2% and far lower test scores.

The clearest opportunity for growth is in math, particularly in 4th grade. While Sanborn's overall math proficiency (40.5%) exceeds the state average (37.3%), it trails the district (46.9%), and 4th grade math proficiency dips to just 28.1%. Upper-grade reading and science also show some softness, with 5th grade ELA at 39.3% and science at 35.7%. Schools like Hygiene and Central demonstrate stronger math outcomes, though both serve a smaller share of low-income students. Even so, Sanborn's steady upward trajectory, strong early literacy, and supportive attendance culture provide a solid foundation for continued improvement.

Open Quote Worst school, if your child has health issues be prepared to have to deal with one of the worst district nurses, as well as this school will put policies over your child's mental health and education. Both my children are behind due to the negligence of this school. I would not enroll your children here. Close Quote

Open Quote Underperforms in every category across all levels and the teachers blame the parents for any issues with the students despite never handing out homework. My daughter has come home confused multiple times regarding reading, writing, and maths, requiring me to re-educate her over several hours to correct their curriculum and teaching breakdown. A lot of young teachers without adequate teaching experience. Close Quote
