Newton Middle School is a public middle school in Centennial, CO, in the south-metro Denver area, serving 781 students in grades 6–8 as part of the 5-star Littleton School District No. 6, a top-10 Colorado district. The school currently ranks 26th out of 469 Colorado middle schools (94th percentile, 5 stars) and has not dipped below the 87th percentile in a decade, making it the clear academic leader among its same-district peers — John Wesley Powell Middle School ranks 61st, Euclid Middle School 113th, and Goddard Middle School 118th. It is essentially tied with West Middle School (27th) as the top-performing middle school in the immediate area.

Math is Newton's signature subject. On the 2025–2026 CMAS assessments, 70.2% of Newton students were proficient in math, the highest rate among all nearby schools and nearly double the statewide average of 37.3%. The 8th grade result is especially striking: 81.6% proficient, compared to 61.4% for the district and 37.8% for the state, indicating strong algebra readiness. In English Language Arts, 71.3% of Newton students were proficient — trailing only Mountain Ridge Middle School (72.7%) nearby and ahead of West Middle School (70.5%), Campus Middle School (68.4%), and the district average of 62.1%.

Attendance is a major differentiator. Newton's chronic absenteeism rate is 10.6%, roughly one-third of the state rate (28.4%) and far lower than nearby high-performers like West Middle School (18.3%), Campus Middle School (15.4%), and Mountain Ridge Middle School (18.8%). Both boys and girls perform at nearly identical high levels — and the school achieves all of this despite a higher student-teacher ratio (19.5) than most area peers. The one area that looks more average is support for students with disabilities, ranking near the 50th percentile in a 2024–2025 comparison, though very small group sizes make those results difficult to interpret.
