Julesburg High School

Julesburg High School is a small public school in the rural community of Julesburg, Colorado, serving 107 students in grades 7 through 12 as part of the Julesburg School District No. Re1. The school holds a 3-star rating and ranks 132nd out of 338 Colorado high schools for 2025-2026, placing it in the 61st percentile. More than half of its students (53.27%) now qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, up from 40.74% three years ago. The student-to-teacher ratio is 15.3, reasonable for a rural school but notably higher than the 8.2 ratio at nearby Revere Junior-Senior High School.

The most striking finding for parents is the gap between subjects. On the PSAT10, 88% of 10th graders were proficient in Reading and Writing—23 points above the state average—while on the SAT, only 22% of 11th graders were proficient in Math, 10 points below the state. The graduation rate has declined from a perfect 100% (maintained for four straight years) to 82.4% in 2024-2025, trailing both the district (94.8%) and state (85.6%). However, the dropout rate has been 0.0% in four of the last five years, suggesting students may be finishing in more than four years rather than leaving school.

Compared with nearby Revere Junior-Senior High School, Julesburg serves nearly twice as many students and holds a stronger academic ranking (61st percentile vs. Revere's 36th percentile from its last published ranking). Revere does edge out Julesburg with a higher graduation rate (88.9% vs. 82.4%) and a lower chronic absenteeism rate (16.7% vs. 20.9%). Still, Julesburg's chronic absenteeism (20.9%) is well below the district average of 37.7%. Julesburg was once a top-tier school—ranked 26th in the state in 2010-2011—and although it has slipped, its literacy performance remains a genuine standout. Rising poverty and the math achievement gap are real challenges, but the school's reading and writing outcomes are impressive even by state standards.
