Summary

Belmar School of Integrated Arts is a K-5 elementary school in Lakewood, Colorado, serving 293 students within the Jefferson County School District R-1, where 48.8% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. In 2025-2026, the school achieved its highest state ranking in over a decade—jumping from the 37th to the 52nd percentile (3 stars)—a 15-point leap in a single year. This mid-range placement stands out in a neighborhood with stark performance gaps: top-ranked Dennison Elementary (3rd in the state) and Devinny Elementary (48th) sit within a few miles of Deane Elementary (929th) and Lasley Elementary (873rd).

Academically, Belmar posted notable gains in 2025-2026. English Language Arts proficiency reached 46.1%, now above the state average (44.7%), with especially strong 3rd-grade (51.4%) and 5th-grade (57.9%) results. Science proficiency surged from 14.0% to 35.1% over two years, nearly matching the state average. The school's most significant internal concern is a 4th-grade slump—ELA (34.0%) and math (30.2%) scores drop sharply relative to 3rd and 5th grades. Math remains the weakest core subject overall (36.2% vs. the state's 37.3%), and the school's small enrollment of 293 students means single cohorts can drive large year-to-year swings.

Belmar outperforms nearby schools serving similar student populations. Patterson International School, just over half a mile away, posts considerably lower proficiency (30.0% ELA, 26.9% math) despite a similar free/reduced-price lunch rate. Chronic absenteeism (29.9%) remains above district and state averages but is far below high-poverty neighbors like Lasley Elementary (49.5%) and Deane Elementary (48.7%). With continued progress in reading and science, and focused attention needed on math and attendance, Belmar appears well-positioned to build on its upward momentum.

Open Quote School name has changed to Belmar School of Integrated Arts, lots of great things happening at BelArts, I have seen outstanding art pieces by all grade levels, came to amazing choir performances and witnessed some pretty awesome PE math- basketball integration happening in the gym. Very engaging for the students and taking back into the classrooms. I've also only witnessed positive leadership from the principal Ms. Leighty. The staff is warm and welcoming and current teachers have been incredible. Close Quote

Open Quote Bad leadership of the school, Principal Leighty does not genuinely care about students and their families. Teachers are amazing and always helpful. Close Quote

Open Quote The bullying in this school is a BIG concern. The principal does not handle matters fairly. He has his favorites. If you are Hispanic, please look elsewhere for a different school. Close Quote
