Summary

Creighton Middle School serves 741 students in grades 6–8 in Lakewood, Colorado, and is part of the Jefferson County School District No. R-1. The school has shown real momentum in recent years, climbing from the 25th percentile statewide in 2020–2021 to the 54th percentile in 2025–2026 and earning a 3-star rating. English Language Arts proficiency now sits at 42.9%, essentially matching the state average of 44.7%. Math and science remain weaker, with 30% of students proficient in math and 31.1% in science — both below state and district averages.

The most pressing challenge is chronic absenteeism. In 2024–2025, 43.4% of Creighton students were chronically absent, nearly double the state rate of 28.4% and well above the district rate of 26.6%. Students who miss significant instructional time are at greater risk of falling behind, and math proficiency declines as students move through the school: 35.2% of 6th graders are proficient, dropping to 26.4% in 7th grade and 28.6% in 8th grade. On the positive side, Creighton has improved steadily across all subjects over the past three years, and the share of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch has fallen from 62.2% to 54.3%.

Creighton's closest statistical neighbor is Everitt Middle School, which serves a nearly identical student population and posts very similar test scores and attendance rates. By contrast, nearby Bell Middle School, Dunstan Middle School, and Manning Options School report far lower chronic absenteeism and significantly higher proficiency rates, though they also serve fewer students from low-income families. For parents weighing their options, the clearest lever for improvement at Creighton is attendance — closing the absenteeism gap could meaningfully boost academic outcomes, particularly in math and science.

Open Quote Creighton is NOT my child's home school but over the past two years this school has become our HOME school. The staff, the counselors, and teachers are all so wonderful. My daughter and I have felt/experienced nothing but acceptance and a love for the students growth. I'm thankful we made a choice for Creighton. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is awful. The admin does nothing and kids get away with everything. Huge overturn in teachers every year too Close Quote

Open Quote This school is in steady decline. Just look at the where the school is in terms of current ranking. Test scores are also declined. The teachers do not care about the kids. It is not an environment where your child will florish. Close Quote
