Summary

Frontier Charter Academy is an alternative K-12 school in Greeley, Colorado, serving 1,432 students within Greeley School District No. 6. Although the district ranks in the bottom 16% of Colorado districts, Frontier stands out as a high-performing school with a 97.5% graduation rate (versus 90.1% for the district and 85.6% statewide), effectively zero dropout rates, and chronic absenteeism well below district and state averages. The school serves a moderate share of economically disadvantaged students, with 41.3% qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

Academically, Frontier outperforms its district by wide margins in both English language arts and math on CMAS tests. In 2025-2026, 41.9% of Frontier students scored proficient in ELA and 35.8% in math, compared to district rates of 28.1% and 20.7%. These results also beat nearby University Schools (35.3% ELA and 28.2% math) and vastly exceed District 6 Online Academy, though that school serves a much more economically disadvantaged population. Frontier's elementary grades are particularly strong: 4th grade reading proficiency reached 59.1%, and 9th and 10th grade PSAT reading/writing scores hit 74%, both well above state averages.

However, Frontier faces a notable middle school slide — 7th grade math proficiency falls to 18.8%, below the state rate of 32.9% — and 11th grade SAT and science results are inconsistent, with SAT reading/writing dropping from 67% to 42% between years. The school also has a higher student-teacher ratio (20.8) than nearby alternatives. Still, for parents seeking a school with strong retention, near-universal graduation, and solid elementary academics within a low-ranked district, Frontier Charter Academy is clearly outperforming expectations and offers a compelling option in northern Colorado.

Open Quote This was a great school, but already it seems to have its best days behind it. Test scores are dropping, achievements are dwindling, experienced staff is leaving. Hard to know what's to blame: they grew significantly in the last few years (maybe too much?), they have mediocre facilities, and they switched to a 4-day school week for the elementary kids, which can't possibly be good. I'm glad my kids had outgrown the elementary before they made that choice. What a terrible way to teach the importance of a strong work ethic! It's losing what little diversity it had. Their graduates don't bring in the scholarship dollars that other similar schools bring in. Our youngest will graduate this year - and none too soon! Wouldn't choose again. Sorry, school - you aren't being true to your mission. Close Quote
