Summary

Aspen View Academy is a public charter elementary and middle school in Castle Rock, Colorado, serving 973 students in grades PK-8 as part of the highly-ranked Douglas County School District. While the school generally performs better than the state average on standardized tests, it lags behind the district average in most subject areas, particularly in English Language Arts and Math.

Aspen View Academy's performance on state assessments for female and male students is on par with state averages, but lower than the district. The school also has relatively high dropout rates, ranging from 0.6% to 2.2% in recent years, which is higher than the district and state. Additionally, Aspen View Academy has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, from 12.3% in 2022-2023 to 27.7% in 2023-2024, well above state and district averages. Interestingly, the school has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a potential correlation between socioeconomic factors and academic performance.

Compared to nearby schools, Aspen View Academy performs better than South Ridge Elementary and Castle Rock Elementary, but lags behind higher-performing schools like World Compass Academy, Academy Charter School, and Soaring Hawk Elementary. The school may need to focus on improving student engagement, attendance, and targeted support to address its areas for improvement.

Open Quote Zero student advocacy, violate if not outright ignore IEPs for students needing support, or those who are gifted and need to be challenged. Super political school, rude staff, high teacher turnover and for what it’s worth, after 5 years I could never figure out why the front office was so rude. This school had so much potential. It’s disappointing to see it being ran into the ground. Leadership overhaul badly needed.
Avoid Aspen View if you can, so many other schools in the area are much… and I mean much, better. Close Quote

Open Quote The Principal has no leadership qualities and is terrible at communication. The teachers are good, but the turnover is high. The board isn't focused on anything, other than their personal agenda. Your children deserve better. Close Quote

Open Quote The School has experienced a 60 turnover in instructors during the past two years. The middle school education has deteriorated greatly in the past two years to the point where a majority of students have chosen not to return. 3rd principal in last 4 years will soon start. Major turnaround is needed. Close Quote

Open Quote I found that the teachers in the school are very good, genuinely care about students, and want the best for their students.

The administration receives poor marks, though. They fail to follow their own policies when it comes to discipline. They have a 5 step process for discipline, with communication to parents in all steps. My child came home with a suspension notice one day, with a letter stating that there have been repeated and ongoing issues. None of those repeated and ongoing issues were ever brought to my attention. As parents, we easily could have done our job to mold our child's behavior, but were not given that opportunity. When asked about the repeated and ongoing issues, the administration was unable to provide any information and instead stated the they did not have to provide any information due to a FERPA law. So we are left wondering what those issues were, or if they even happened. My child doesn't go to that school anymore because I don't feel like I can trust the administration. Close Quote
