Summary

Franktown Elementary School is a PK–5 elementary school in Franktown, CO, serving 354 students within the Douglas County School District No. Re 1, a district ranked 6th out of 115 in Colorado. The school itself holds a 4-star rating and ranked 205th out of 943 Colorado elementary schools in 2025-2026, placing it in the 78th percentile statewide. That overall mark masks a more mixed picture: students generally score above the state average, but the school trails its own high-performing district in key subjects.

The most striking finding is a sharp grade-level inconsistency. Fifth grade is a clear strength, with ELA proficiency at 70.7% and math at 65.5%, both above district averages, and science has been consistently strong, peaking at 67.3% in 2024-2025. However, 4th-grade math is a major red flag: only 37.2% of students are proficient, versus 60.5% districtwide and well below nearby Academy Charter School (79.7%) and Sage Canyon Elementary (75.3%). Third-grade ELA is also soft at 45.5% versus 57.6% districtwide. Because 4th-grade ELA is strong, this appears to be a targeted issue rather than a schoolwide problem.

Franktown has meaningful structural advantages: a chronic absenteeism rate of 13.0% is far below district (16.6%) and state averages, and only 11.3% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Yet its statewide ranking slipped from the 89th percentile in 2024-2025 back to the 78th percentile, after years of steady improvement. Nearby schools with similar demographics, such as Academy Charter, outperform Franktown substantially in both ELA and math, suggesting the current results are not simply a reflection of the student body. Returning to the top tier of nearby elementary schools will likely require focused attention on the 4th-grade math gap and early-grade literacy.

Open Quote I am the parent of Franktown Elementary students, and while I feel the teachers are very student focused, the administration is not. I don't think the principal has the best interest of students at heart; his decisions appear to be politically and personally motivated, rather than educationally focused. Every time I am in the building I get the impression that he is dismissive and belittling to staff and parents alike. For the most part, I have loved my kids teachers, they are caring and obviously there for the love of teaching. however, because kids are impressionable and learn what they see, my biggest concern with their day to day attendance at FES, is their exposure to the disrespect shown by administration.
