Clyde Miller K-8 consistently ranks in the bottom 20-25% of Colorado elementary schools based on academic performance. The school's proficiency rates on CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) tests are significantly lower than the district and state averages across all grades and subjects. For example, in 2024-2025, only 27.5% of students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 44.8% statewide. The school's performance is particularly weak in CMAS Math, with only 16.6% of students proficient or better, compared to 35.9% statewide. Clyde Miller K-8's 8th-grade CMAS Science proficiency rate is also very low, at just 9.8%, compared to 36.4% statewide.

The school's challenges appear to be rooted in a combination of socioeconomic factors and student engagement issues. Clyde Miller K-8 has a high percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with 88.92% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2023-2024. The school also has a high chronic absenteeism rate of 40.1% and a relatively high dropout rate ranging from 1.9% to 2.9% in recent years. Interestingly, some nearby schools in the Denver School District No. 1, such as KIPP Northeast Elementary, Omar D. Blair Charter School, and SOAR at Green Valley Ranch, demonstrate higher academic performance despite serving similar student populations.

Open Quote This school is a joke. They practice lining up for recess and use most of their recess time to practice lining up. My child is in middle school. If a student drops an item while lining up, too bad you owe recess. This school is a joke. You cannot complain or else they take it out on your student and watch their every move to see how they can get your student in trouble. These people are running a circus. As soon as I can I am moving my kid from this school. Worst school ever. Close Quote
