Summary:

The city of Severance, Colorado, is served by two public schools in the Weld County Reorganized School District No. Re-4: Severance High School (grades 9–12) and Range View Elementary (grades PK–5), with no middle school located within the city.

The district itself is a standout, ranking 19th out of 115 districts in Colorado with a 4-star rating, yet both Severance schools hold 3-star ratings and sit near the middle of the state pack. Severance High School posts a strong 93% graduation rate and a very low 0.6% dropout rate, outperforming state averages. It also excels in 11th-grade science, with 31.9% proficiency versus 24.8% statewide, and has shown encouraging gains in 9th-grade math. However, its SAT math proficiency trails the state (30% vs. 32%), and chronic absenteeism is a concern at 25.4%, nearly matching the state’s troubling 28.4%. Meanwhile, Range View Elementary shines in attendance, with just 11.6% chronic absenteeism, far below the district’s 17.4%. Its 5th-grade students are strong in reading, math, and science, but the school shows a pronounced 4th-grade slump: only 34.4% proficiency in ELA and 29.2% in math, both roughly 15 points below the district average.

Math is the clearest shared weakness across both schools, and the elementary school’s overall math proficiency dropped from 45.7% to 40.3% in one year. These two schools illustrate a district with high overall performance but uneven local outcomes, making the most actionable priorities the 4th-grade instructional gaps at Range View and the combination of high school math proficiency and chronic absenteeism at Severance High.
