Summary:
ZIP code 96001 has six elementary schools in the area: four serve kindergarten through grade 5, and two serve kindergarten through grade 8. In 2025–2026, their average proficiency was 51% in ELA, 44% in mathematics and 37% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%; school-to-school ranges were 28, 24 and 46 percentage points, respectively. The key finding for families is that these above-state averages conceal sharply different results among schools, especially in science.
Grant Elementary led in ELA (66%) and science (59%), while Sycamore Elementary led mathematics at 56%—just 0.2 points above Grant. Grant’s ELA and science results were 17 and 23 points above the state; Sycamore’s math was 18 points above. Grade 5 comparisons also favored both: Grant was 16 points above the state in ELA and 20 in math, while Sycamore was 13 and 15 points above. At the other end, Cypress Elementary had the lowest results in all three subjects: 38% in ELA, 33% in math and 13% in science—11, 6 and 23 points below state results.
Average results improved from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 by 5 points in ELA, 3 in math and 10 in science, though schools did not all follow that trend: Bonny View Elementary and Juniper made notable gains, while Grant’s ELA and math fell and Cypress’s science declined. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking rose from 57th to 75th for Sycamore, while Grant remained high but moved from 86th to 80th. Attendance offers another point of comparison: chronic absenteeism was 5.8% at Manzanita Elementary and 6.2% at Grant, versus 23% at Cypress; Manzanita’s ELA result, however, was close to the state rate. Reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares for 2024–2025 were 38% at Grant and 89% at Cypress; these figures offer context, not an explanation for school results.
