Summary:
ZIP code 95322 has five schools—two elementary schools, one middle school, one traditional high school and one continuation high school—all in Gustine Unified. Four schools have reported 2025–26 proficiency results; their unweighted averages were 35% in English language arts (ELA), 22% in math and 26% in science. Most important, those averages were below state proficiency in every subject—by 14 percentage points in ELA, 16 points in math and 10 points in science.
Romero Elementary stands out among the elementary schools, especially in math: 41% of students were proficient, compared with 17% at Gustine Elementary, a 24-point gap. Romero also led in ELA, 38% to 21%, and science, 28% to 16%. Gustine High had the strongest reported ELA result at 54%—5 points above the state—but its 15% math result was 23 points below the state. Gustine Middle led reported science results at 31%, while Gustine Elementary had the lowest reported ELA and science results, at 21% and 16%. Pioneer High (Continuation)’s test results are suppressed, so its academic results cannot be compared here.
Results improved on average from 2024–25 to 2025–26: the four reporting schools gained 3 points in ELA, 5 in math and 6 in science, outpacing state gains in each subject. Improvement was not universal: Gustine Elementary fell 2 points in ELA and 6 in science, while Romero gained 8 points in math and 13 in science. SchoolDigger’s latest three rank-history entries show gains for Gustine High (37th to 46th percentile), Gustine Middle (8th to 21st) and Romero (30th to 47th); Gustine Elementary moved from the 7th to the 8th percentile. As context, Romero’s student–teacher ratio was 20.2 versus Gustine Elementary’s 23.0, and its free/reduced lunch eligible measure was 83% versus 80% (school year 2024–25); these figures do not explain the achievement differences. Gustine High also had a 99% graduation rate, alongside 29% chronic absenteeism, so its measures point to different strengths and concerns.
