Summary:

ZIP code 95050 has four Santa Clara Unified elementary schools, all serving kindergarten through grade 5. Together, their 2025–2026 averages were above the state in English language arts (ELA), math and science: 52%, 47% and 44%, compared with 49%, 38% and 36%. But those averages hide large differences between schools: the most important finding is that the gap between the highest- and lowest-scoring schools exceeds 50 percentage points in every subject.

Washington Open Elementary stands out at the top, with 79% proficient in ELA, 78% in math and 73% in science—20, 30 and 28 points ahead of the next-highest school in each subject. Scott Lane Elementary is at the bottom, with 28% in ELA, 25% in math and 20% in science, respectively 21, 13 and 16 points below state results. Other schools have more mixed patterns: Westwood Elementary is strong in third grade, where ELA and math exceed state results by 29 and 18 points, but its fifth-grade ELA and math fall below the state. C. W. Haman Elementary is second in all-grades science at 46%, about 10 points above the state, despite below-state ELA and math results.

From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the four-school averages rose 2 points in math and 4 in science, while ELA dipped slightly. SchoolDigger ranks Washington Open highest in this group, at the 96th percentile, and Scott Lane lowest, at the 21st percentile; Haman’s percentile fell from 69 to 54 between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026. School conditions offer context, not explanations for scores: in 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible students made up 8% at Washington Open and 55% at Scott Lane. Student-teacher ratios ranged from 19.7 to 22.7, while chronic absenteeism ranged from 6% at Washington Open to 21% at Westwood.
