Schools in ZIP code 94401 include five schools across two districts: three elementary schools serving grades K–5, K–7 or K–8, and two high schools serving grades 9–12 and 10–12. The clearest academic standout is North Shoreview Montessori, which leads the other elementary schools in every reported grade 3–5 English and math comparison and grade 5 science comparison.

North Shoreview Montessori also exceeds California’s results in every matched-grade comparison shown. Its lead over the next-highest elementary school is 40–55 percentage points in grades 3–5 English, 26–62 points in math, and 20 points in grade 5 science. At the other end, LEAD Elementary has the lowest all-grades results among schools reporting scores in English, math and science: 17%, 19% and 9%, respectively. Fiesta Gardens International Elementary ranks between the two on SchoolDigger’s statewide elementary rankings: 17th percentile, compared with North Shoreview’s 85th and LEAD’s 7th. Among high schools, The Bridge Academy has the clearest concern: its 53% graduation rate, 28% dropout rate and 80% chronic absenteeism compare with 96%, 3% and 18% at San Mateo High.

Across the four schools with test results, the unweighted average rose by about 1 percentage point in English and math from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but fell by 10 points in science; the state science average rose by 3 points. SchoolDigger rankings also fell from 2023–24 to 2025–26 for San Mateo High (87th to 83rd percentile), Fiesta Gardens (42nd to 17th) and North Shoreview (93rd to 85th), while LEAD remained at the 7th percentile. These rankings are not test-score changes. School size and ratios do not neatly track results: the elementary schools have student-teacher ratios of 21.8–23.0, while Bridge has 10.7 and San Mateo High 19.5. As context, all listed low-income measures are free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–25: 67% at LEAD, 56% at Fiesta Gardens, 18% at North Shoreview, 83% at Bridge and 38% at San Mateo High. The Bridge Academy has no test-score figures in this data, and the schools serve different grade spans.
