Summary:

Schools in zip code 93636 include nine schools—four elementary, one middle, two high schools and two alternative schools—across Golden Valley Unified and Chawanakee Unified. In 2025–2026, the schools’ unweighted “All Grades” average was 53% in ELA, about 4 percentage points above the state, and 32% in math, about 6 points below; science averaged 36%, close to the state’s 36%. The most important takeaway is that the area’s results are uneven, with a stronger overall showing in ELA than math and substantial differences among schools.

Liberty High stands out in 11th-grade ELA: 72% proficiency compared with 38% at Independence Continuation High, a 34-point gap; Liberty was 14 points above the state rate, while Independence was 20 points below. In 11th-grade math, Liberty scored 34% and Independence 6%, a 28-point difference. For fifth-grade science, Webster Elementary led the comparable K–6 schools at 54%, versus 32%–39% at the others. Ranchos Middle also exceeded state results in both seventh- and eighth-grade ELA and math. Independence has the most concerning listed outcomes: 78% graduation, 17% dropout and 48% chronic absenteeism, compared with 98%, 1% and 17% at Liberty. Because schools serve different grade spans, grade-matched results are the fairest comparisons.

Across the two years of test results, the unweighted ELA average rose by about 1 point and science by about 4 points, while math fell by about 1 point; individual schools varied, including a 21-point science increase at Webster and an 11-point decline at Hillside Elementary. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings also shifted: Liberty and Independence each gained 22 percentile points from 2023–2024 to 2025–2026, while Ranchos lost 10. Context varies too: student–teacher ratios range from 11.7 at Independence to 27.7 at Freedom Home, and free/reduced lunch eligible shares for school year 2024–2025 range from 26% at Stone Creek Elementary to 89% at Independence. These measures provide context, not a simple explanation of school results.
