Summary:

Five schools in ZIP code 92582 serve kindergarten through grade 12: two elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools, with 2,697 students altogether. In 2025–2026, the schools’ average proficiency was 28% in ELA, 14% in math and 21% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. Science was the group’s strongest subject relative to the state, while math was its weakest. The most important overall finding is that all three group averages were below state results, with the largest gap in math: 24 percentage points.

Megan Cope Elementary led the five schools in every subject, scoring 40% in ELA, 28% in math and 29% in science—14, 17 and 10 points above the other four schools’ averages. It was still below state results by 9, 10 and 7 points, respectively. Mountain View High was lowest in all three subjects, at 15% in ELA, 2% in math and 9% in science; it trailed the other four schools’ averages by 16, 16 and 15 points. Among the high schools, Mountain Heights Academy scored higher than Mountain View High in ELA, math and science by 10, 11 and 19 points, despite enrolling fewer students (125 versus 231) and having a higher student-teacher ratio (32.3 versus 19.2).

Across the two years of test results, the group average fell 3 points in ELA, changed by less than 1 point in math, and rose 6 points in science; every school’s science result improved. One exception to the broad trend is Mountain Heights, where ELA dropped 18 points even as math rose 7 and science rose 11. For the two kindergarten-through-grade-5 schools, Megan Cope outscored De Anza Elementary in all-grades results, though De Anza led in fourth-grade math. Both schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025: 87% at Cope and 88% at De Anza. High absenteeism is another point for families to weigh: it was 82% at Mountain View High and 58% at Mountain Heights, compared with 18% statewide. Test results cover only two years, and all-grades comparisons include schools serving different grade spans.
