Summary:

ZIP code 92065 includes 11 schools—six elementary, one middle, three high schools and one alternative school—serving students in Ramona City Unified. The reported 2025–26 all-grade results show a wide spread: school averages range from 42% in ELA, 29% in math and 32% in science to state results of 49%, 38% and 36%, respectively. All-grade results are not directly comparable across different grade spans, and Future Bound Independent Study Secondary’s test scores are suppressed. The clearest takeaway is that achievement varies substantially from school to school, not just from one subject to another.

Mountain Valley Academy stands out in ELA and science, with 65% and 56% proficient; its ELA is 15 points above the state, and its science is 20 points above. James Dukes Elementary leads in math at 53%, 14 points above the state, and also reports 59% ELA and 43% science. Ramona Community Montessori is another strong performer, at 58% ELA, 48% math and 46% science. At the lower end, Ramona Elementary has the lowest ELA result, 20%, 29 points below the state. Montecito High (Continuation) has the lowest reported math and science results, 2% and 12%—36 and 24 points below state results.

Recent changes were mixed: across the 10 schools with results in both years, average scores fell 1 point in ELA and 2 in math, while science rose 2; state results rose by less than 1 point in ELA, 1 in math and 3 in science. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 statewide rankings place James Dukes at the 75th percentile and Montessori at the 72nd, compared with the 15th percentile for Hanson Elementary and the 11th for Ramona Elementary. The 2024–25 free/reduced lunch eligible measure was 51% at Montessori and 50% at Barnett Elementary, yet Montessori’s results were higher by 18 ELA points, 23 math points and 22 science points. These figures offer context, not an explanation for the differences.
