Summary:

Zip code 90630 has eight schools spanning elementary through high school: five elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools. In 2025–2026, all three school groups scored above state results in English language arts (ELA), math and science, though elementary results varied considerably from school to school. The sharpest contrast is between the high schools: Oxford Academy led Cypress High by 28 percentage points in ELA, 48 in math and 42 in science, and the gap remained large in grade-matched 11th-grade results. Oxford’s advantage over Cypress is the area’s clearest school-to-school difference.

Margaret Landell Elementary is the strongest elementary school across subjects, with 84% in ELA, 82% in math and 74% in science—26, 29 and 31 points above the lowest elementary result in each subject. The lowest scores vary: A. E. Arnold Elementary had the lowest ELA and science results (57% and 43%), while Clara J. King Elementary had the lowest math result (53%); King’s science score, 58%, was much stronger than its other subjects. The five elementary schools averaged 19 points above the state in ELA, 26 in math and 21 in science. Oxford Academy also ranked 6th of 2,137 schools with five stars in SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 rankings; Landell ranked 103rd of 5,804 elementary schools with five stars.

Elementary schools’ average advantage over the state narrowed from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 by about 1 point in ELA, 1 in math and 2 in science, even as local scores changed little overall. SchoolDigger’s three-year rankings moved up for Landell (246th to 103rd) and Frank Vessels Elementary (875th to 747th), but down for Arnold (1,235th to 1,452nd) and Lexington Junior High (408th to 517th). School context also differs: elementary student-teacher ratios range from 24.3 at Arnold to 26.7 at Juliet Morris Elementary; free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025 range from 25% at Landell to 77% at King. Both high schools have graduation rates above the state’s 88% and chronic absenteeism below the state’s 18%, but Oxford’s test results are substantially higher than Cypress’s.
