Summary:

Four middle schools serve ZIP code 90023: Hollenbeck Middle and Robert Louis Stevenson College and Career Preparatory serve grades 6–8, while KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory and KIPP Academy of Innovation serve grades 5–8. Results vary considerably across schools, and KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory is the clearest standout: in 2024–2025, it was the only school above California in all three tested subjects.

KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory led the 2024–2025 comparison with 62% proficient in ELA, 49% in math, and 53% in science—about 13, 12, and 20 percentage points above the state, respectively. At the other end, Stevenson scored 35% in ELA, 17% in math, and 16% in science, trailing California by about 14, 20, and 16 points. Hollenbeck outscored Stevenson by about 7 points in ELA, 21 in math, and 8 in science. KIPP Academy of Innovation had a more mixed profile: its 38% science result was about 6 points above the state, while its ELA and math results were below.

Among the two schools with 2025–2026 results, Hollenbeck’s ELA rose from 41% to 47% and math from 38% to 40% year over year, while science slipped from 24% to 22%; Stevenson’s clearest gain was math, from 17% to 22%, though it remained below the state. SchoolDigger’s 2024–2025 rankings also put KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory high at the 86th percentile, compared with Hollenbeck at the 55th, KIPP Academy of Innovation at the 42nd, and Stevenson at the 28th. For 2024–2025, the schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares of 77% at KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory, 88% at KIPP Academy of Innovation, and about 96% at both Hollenbeck and Stevenson; despite those similar shares, Hollenbeck’s results were notably higher than Stevenson’s. The latest four-school comparison uses 2024–2025 results because the KIPP schools do not have 2025–2026 results.
