St Timothy School

St. Tim’s has a serious lack of funding, and it shows. This burden is transferred to parents: we’re asked and expected to provide classroom essentials — pencils, paper, markers, cleaning supplies, etc. — through teachers’ Amazon wishlists. Each week, our daughter was asked to come with money to pay for school-wide events, usually to buy Dollar Tree junk food — a transparent effort of the school to raise much needed money. Volleyballs (the only feature of the “athletics department”) are misshapen, lopsided and ripping at the seams. What’s more, every water fountain is broken and students are discouraged from using the restroom
In groups as a way to avoid high water and power bills. 

Aside from the more obvious signs, the lack of funding is even clearer behind the scenes: the school holds a “Teachers Matter” fundraiser because the school can’t afford to pay its teachers what they deserve, and we parents are asked to contribute even more to teachers’ paychecks. In fact, almost everything about the school is a fundraiser: Parents Night Out, pep rallies, school plays and the Cultural Heritage Festival.

The only thing more lacking than funds at St. Tim’s is the school’s leadership. 

We’re so happy we finally left.
